Dr. Urbanic is an Associate Director of the Division of Clinical & Translational Research overseeing Clinical Trials. He also serves as the Medical Director of the Encinitas Treatment Facility and as the UCSD Medical Director of the Proton Therapy Center.

A dedicated Clinical Trialist, Dr. Urbanic is a leader in multiple national Cooperative Groups including Alliance and NRG, having served as study chair and/or principal investigator on lung cancer and CNS tumor clinical trials. He has considerable experience in cutting-edge radiation technologies including IMRT, IGRT, SBRT, SRS and proton therapy and has been recognized as a Best Doctor in America. He has also been selected as Teacher of the Year by the Radiation Oncology residents.

He is currently Senior Editor of the journal Practical Radiation Oncology and is a member of the National Comprehensive Care Network (NCCN) panel focused on smoking cessation. He also participates in the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise, an ASTRO-sponsored initiative focusing on improving clinical functionality.
