Dr. MacEwan is Pediatric Oncology Section Chief and oversees the treatment of pediatric cancers at both the Moores Cancer Center and the Proton Center.
Trained at the first hospital-based Proton Center in the United States, Dr. MacEwan has considerable experience applying proton therapy in patients with cancer, particularly in a wide range of pediatric malignancies including Medulloblastoma, Rhabdomyosarcoma, etc. In his role of Pediatric Oncology Section Chief, he works closely with pediatric oncologists and surgeons at Rady Children’s Hospital.
Dr. MacEwan has been involved with multiple research projects during his Residency and medical training. Notably, he has explored the role of vertebral-body sparing proton craniospinal irradiation in young children with medulloblastoma, a novel approach to reduce long-term growth problems in these children.
